LEANER more Sustainable Healthcare Design + Construction Best Practices

The Opportunity

Extraordinary waste still plagues the construction industry.

Over $62 billion was spent on U.S. healthcare facilities in 2023.

*70% of design and construction projects go over budget and do not meet their original deadlines.

Poor Integration between the planning, pre-con, and construction phases, along with other delays, duplicative work, unplanned changes, and loss of materials due to poor coordination, continues to result in significant capital losses”.

Adapting to Today’s Healthcare Environment

HIR is creating awareness, conducting research, and working with academic, hospital, and industry leaders and organizations to help identify LEAN new best practices to solve outdated and inefficient design + construction project delivery methods that are costing the healthcare industry billions of dollars in unnecessary spend each year.

Informing + Connecting

HIR began in 2018 as a rural healthcare facilities infrastructure research initiative, initially sponsored by the University Research Institute.

Today HIR is connecting community leaders with healthcare industry resources through in-person meetings and webcasts, providing important content for those looking to reshape their community's healthcare facilities infrastructure.

HIR is a Catalyst for Change.

“The Healthcare Infrastructure Research Institute provides healthcare executives responsible for facilities, real estate, and community leaders with research, resources, and expertise to help enable the financing, development, and planning of healthcare and wellness facilities in small towns and cities across America.”
